Whether you’re a relocating employee in need of a comfortable landing spot for your family, a traveler on a business trip or contract work, or simply looking to get settled in a new city before buying a home, corporate housing can be an excellent solution. It provides more space and a home-like atmosphere than traditional hotels while providing amenities such as reliable high-speed WiFi and inclusive utilities, which makes it an ideal option for many situations.

Corporate Housing providers offer a variety of location options, from apartment communities to single-family homes. They also maintain consistent professional standards and can easily scale their offerings to meet the needs of large groups. In addition, a corporate housing provider is often the best choice for clients who need to stay close to a specific point of interest, such as a workplace or school.

In addition, corporate housing is an excellent choice for people who need to relocate to a temporary area due to natural disasters or emergencies. It is often offered to healthcare professionals, such as traveling nurses and locum tenens physicians, who are on extended assignments in affected areas. It is also used by relief workers and those who need a place to stay while waiting for their personal homes or rental properties to be repaired or rebuilt. This type of accommodation can also be helpful for entertainment industry professionals who need to spend weeks or months on location.

Short-Term Housing

Team Housing Solutions is a government contractor that specializes in providing temporary furnished apartments for military personnel. The company holds a single award, $15 million Naval Sea Systems Command IDIQ contract that provides lodging services in support of aircraft carrier maintenance. Through task orders awarded under the contract, THS provides temporary accommodations for Navy sailors involved in the repair and overhaul of aircraft carriers homeported in San Diego, Bremerton, and Puget Sound.

LHS and the Local Housing Solutions (LHS) Community of Practice are funded in part by philanthropic grants from the Lincoln Land Institute, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Arthur M. Blank Foundation. New policy content and tools are regularly added to the website with funding from Abt Associates.

Long-Term Housing

Through past federal prime contract awards, THS has delivered long-term lodging services, including furnished apartments and hotel rooms. Several awards under the Naval Sea Systems Command IDIQ, for example, provided temporary housing accommodations for the Navy’s aircraft carrier maintenance workforce during renovation work on vessels homeported in San Diego, Bremerton, and Puget Sound. Another award provided housing for seasonal firefighters and various agency detailers on temporary assignment.

THS continues to provide housing solutions through its current contracts with the Department of Defense, Department of the Interior, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. These contracts have included providing a total of nearly 9,000 furnished rental homes and hotel rooms, as well as delivering temporary accommodations for over 3,000 military personnel.

LHS is made possible by funding from the Ford and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundations, as well as the Kresge and JPMorgan Chase Foundations. The NYU Furman Center’s Housing Solutions Lab manages LHS, working in partnership with Abt Associates. We welcome feedback and questions from local leaders interested in equitable local housing strategies.

Sheltered/Independent Living

If you’re looking for a safe and comfortable home for yourself in your later years, sheltered housing could be the right choice for you. These are purpose-built developments that provide a range of different accommodation options, from flats and apartments to retirement bungalows. They typically have communal areas for socialising and meals, while still providing a sense of privacy. They also feature emergency call systems for easy access to help.

These schemes usually have a warden or manager on site who’s available to offer support whenever necessary. They’ll be able to assess your needs and make arrangements for extra care as you require it. You may also be able to get financial assistance from your local authority to pay for care in sheltered housing.

If you’re unsure whether sheltered housing is the right option for you, talk to your council or visit your local authority website for more information. The first step is to ask for a free care needs assessment. This will look at what level of care you need, and how suitable your property is. They’ll also be able to tell you what’s included in your service charges and what costs extra. Often these charges cover your food, utility bills, council tax, community alarm system, a house manager, and social activities. Some also include cleaning and gardening services. Some also have rules around pets and visitors.

Housing Accommodation for Over 55’s

Housing accommodation for over 55’s is an option that can be considered for some customers particularly those who have a reduced level of mobility, may feel lonely or unsafe living alone at home. This type of accommodation is designed to promote independence in a safe environment, where residents can meet others and have access to community activities, services and amenities that will enhance their quality of life. Housing for over 55’s can include anything from sheltered to independent living apartments and also consists of both communal and private housing. These apartments will often be smaller and friendlier for aging adults as well as providing easy navigation, no maintenance or yard work to worry about.

Co-Ownership

A co-ownership is an arrangement in which two or more individuals, including couples, friends, or family members, own a property together. Co-ownership is often used in real estate purchases to share the burden of purchasing and maintaining a home and thereby increase the affordability of homeownership. Co-ownership can take on a variety of forms, from joint tenancy to tenancy by the entirety. Tenancy by the entirety is a form of shared ownership that allows widows to inherit their deceased spouse’s portion of the property and can be useful for married couples.
